Pray from your heart, something like this."Father, I wish to turn my life over to you. Please forgive me for my sins, I ask Jesus to come into my heart, AMEN".

The short answer and most important, is that salvation (or being saved) comes from God through Jesus Christ. Of course the question then comes up, what are we saved from? The dictionary defines Salvation as "Deliverance from the power or penalty of sin". What this means is that Jesus went to the cross to take a punishment that was intended for us. Why did he need to, because scripture also tells us that "....for all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God". There was no way for us to get to God, except through a Savior. Sense sin is not allowed where God is, Jesus had to die for our sins and defeat death for us. You see God loved us so much that he was not willing to leave us in our sins. So he sent his only son to redeem us.

Something very important for us to know, is that salvation did not come through the Christian religion, or any other religion. It came through Jesus Christ, the Christian religion did not die for us, nor did it raise from the dead for us. Only Jesus did that, so if you are attending a particular church because you think they can save you, in my opinion, you are wrong. Attending a Christian church is important for worship of God, fellowship and to learn the scriptures a long side other Christians. So please keep your focus on our Lord Jesus and the one who sent him. The scriptures proclaim that you can know with certainty, where you will spend eternity.
